I've bought and regretted buying too many Early Access titles trying to find something worthy of actually being a salable product. Graphics While the vanilla game is already amazing, there are still some cool mods to improve everything Kenshi. I've spent hours and hours and hours pouring over games while looking for "something worthy" to buy. Kenshi's no different, but at least it has a wonderful thematic focus and a great bit of setting/world building design. It's most likely due to the "cover art" than any genius in design. Why this happens so very often in "gaming" is a mystery. In "real life" nobody gets a "There was an attempt" award. There is no excuse that adequately prepares the ground for producing an inferior product. I am tired of developers and fans using the excuse of "Well, they're just a small team" and "mAkINg GaMEZ iS hArD." since I'm frustrated and hiding from the coronavirus atm. #Kenshi gameplay 2018 series
All their X series games have heavy "economy and production line" gameplay elements and a lot of "space combat." The difference between "X series" games and many others is that you can have huge fleets of ships involved in combat and you can personally pilot any of them and even build them at your own shipyards. The "X" series from Egosoft is outstanding. And, that's pretty much my opinion with most games by Indie developers these days. There's a big lack of open-world, squad-based, base-building games. The old Fallout squad-based RPG games, the old and new Wasteland squad-based RPG games, all of the D&D Themed squad-based games, etc.
It's not something that one can find easy analogues for. Kenshi's RTS combat, though, is unique and one of it's strongest draws. This was during the Summer Game Fest where we also found that Kenshi and Goro would be joining the roster. Many of the old school flavor Squad-Based RPG games "can" have a similar flavor of gameplay as Kesni. FYI to new players: Kenshis latest update silently disabled all mods. (Don't care if it's a necro, since I've been trolling for any worthwhile games for far too long on my own.
